When I upload images from Lightroom 3 that were created using the virtual copy (the only way to create a duplicate image in LR), they replace the first image uploaded. For example, I want to create a black and white version of a great photo that's already on Photoshelter, and when I upload this image using this tool, it replaces the color image.
Avoid using virtual copies??? Really??? Do you have any insight on what might be happening?
I reported this to Photoshelter, and this is their reply:

Hi Bonnie,
Farah here from PhotoShelter just following up on our phone call last week! We believe the trouble you are running into with images being read as duplicates does have to do with Lightroom, as suspected. Basically, the problem is with the "virtual copy" feature. Here is what Lightroom says about virtual copies:
"Virtual copies don’t exist as actual photos, but are metadata in the lightroom catalog that store the different sets of adjustments. Virtual copies become actual photos when they are exported as a copy of the master photo or edited as a copy in an external editor."
So one of two things could be happening: you may be using this feature in a way you don't really want to, or it could be that the Lightroom plugin developer has a bug in his publishing tool, where the metadata edits of the virtual copy are not applied or exported as a new image, as you would expecting it to do within the plugin. What we are seeing is the original file and so it gets replaced in our system rather then a new file.
You may want to reach out to the Lighroom plugin developer, Paul, or even within the Adobe community to gain more insight into the Virtual Copy tool, but it may just be something you want to avoid going forward, when you need to make adjustments.
I hope that is helpful! If you have any other questions or concerns here, please don't hesitate to let me know.
Cheers,
Farah
